Tyler Gittelman, CLA ‘21, has been peddling—and pedaling—the joys of reading all over Philadelphia as program manager and primary operator of the Book Bike.

Since 2016, the Free Library of Philadelphia’s Book Bike program and its signature oversized cargo tricycle have been bringing curated selections of titles to community events across the city, allowing library-card-carrying patrons to check books out on the spot.

Tyler, a Temple English alumnus and Library Assistant at the South Philadelphia branch of the Free Library, began piloting the Book Bike in the spring of 2024 and calls it the most fun job he’s ever had.
