The Criminal Justice Department is excited to welcome our newest faculty member, Professor Steven Windisch.

Dr. Windisch earned his PhD in Criminology & Criminal Justice from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. His dissertation, entitled From Swaddling to Swastikas: A Life-Course Investigation of White Supremacist Extremism, drew from in-depth, life-history interviews with 91 North American-based former white supremacists to examine how childhood risk factors, family socialization strategies, and delinquency predispose an individual toward violent extremism. More specifically, he examined how the negative consequences of physical/psychological trauma, identity formation, and interpersonal violence intersect with political extremism.

On a personal note, Dr. Windisch is originally from the Midwest and enjoys woodworking, urban gardening and going on walks with his spouse and two Australian cattle dogs, named Sigmund and Jagger.
