The Department of Criminal Justice is excited to welcome Dr. Marisa Booty to our faculty. Dr. Booty is joining the Department as an Assistant Professor. She holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Kentucky and an M.H.S. (Master of Health Science) in Mental Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her research interests lie at the intersection of public health and public safety, primarily focusing on how communities respond to health crises such as substance use disorder and gun violence within institutional constraints.
She is a mixed-methods scientist who uses innovative approaches, including participatory Photovoice methodology and egocentric network analysis. Her dissertation research employing these methods was funded by a National Institute on Drug Abuse R36 dissertation grant. As one of the biggest Hall & Oates fans around, Dr. Booty is especially thrilled to join the city and university where her favorite musical duo got their start.
