Assistant Professor of English Laura McGrath’s new book, Middlemen: Literary Agents and the Making of American Fiction, is the subject of a glowing review in the June issue of The New York Review of Books (NYRB).
Released in April of 2026, Middlemen examines the way literary agents have shaped American literature from the 1950s to today. Written by Michael Gorra, the NYRB review notes: “McGrath writes with a deft and dust-free feeling for scene and character that is matched by the depth and clarity of her analysis.”
Middlemen has also been covered in The Paris Review, The Los Angeles Review of Books and Kirkus Reviews.
