Kaeley Wadlington is a Junior Psychology major who aspires to a career in clinical psychology. During the Fall 2021 semester, Kaeley completed an internship with Central Division Victim Services (CDVS). This organization aims to advocate for victims and witnesses of crimes, as well as creating a safer community by connecting victims of crime to resources. At her internship site, Kaeley was responsible for analyzing police reports from the 6th police district in Philadelphia and contacting people who could benefit from CDVS programming. The services offered include compensation to ease the financial impact of experiencing a crime and encouraging victims to utilize appropriate mental health and medical treatment. For example, Kaeley explained that the CDVS could contact someone who had personal items broken or damaged during a crime so that they could receive compensation for replacing the items. As an intern for CDVA, Kaeley also attended a Domestic Violence training offered by the Pennsylvania Office of Victim Advocates. Completing this training allowed her to gain insight into the cycle of abuse while networking with professionals from different areas of the legal system including police, parole workers, and lawyers. In addition to offering services to people within the Philadelphia community, Kaeley was also able to coordinate a fundraiser for the Central Division Victim Services. Kaeley enjoyed her work with victim services, and she hopes to utilize the skills she developed at this internship by applying them to her intended career as a clinician.
