Emily Brown is a junior Psychology major, Cognitive Neuroscience minor and is also seeking a certificate in American Sign Language. In addition to her classroom studies she has sought out various experiences that have supported her growth as a student and a future psychologist. One of these experiences includes the Psychology Internship course, where she is working as a Research Assistant at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). She works with the Childhood Anxiety Treatment for Schools (CATS) research team in the Roberts Center for Pediatric Research at CHOP.

By working with the CATS Research Team, she is able to collaborate with the School District of Philadelphia, local mental health agencies, and Student Therapeutic Services (STS) therapists to study the effectiveness of a cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) anxiety treatment plan in school settings. This study trains STS therapists on an anxiety protocol that can be introduced during group sessions for students between fourth and eighth grade. Emily's role on this research team involves recruiting families at schools, providing psychoeducation about self-report assessment tools, and coding data. Emily stated,

this opportunity has allowed me to discover my love for practicing psychology and need to help children with mental illness. Because of this, I have decided to pursue a Psy.D. in clinical psychology after I complete my undergraduate degree

Outside of her research, Emily is heavily involved in the Honors Ambassadors and Transition Team (HATT) with Temple Honors. On Experience Temple Days, HATT presents information about Temple and the Honors program to prospective students and leads campus tours. Emily is also a member of Temple Honors Appalachia, which takes a team of Temple students to the Appalachian region in the summer for a week to learn about the people and culture of the region through helping repair houses in the community. She states, "Last year, I was lucky enough to go to Paintsville, Kentucky and work with a team to help install insulation, siding, exterior paint and a roof on someone's home. I am planning on going back to Neon, Kentucky this upcoming summer!"
