The Psychology Majors Association (PMA) at Temple University provides undergraduate students with opportunities to enhance their understanding and appreciation of psychology through various social and professional activities.
Sidney Saleh-Kurtz, PMA Secretary, explained that this organization is valuable because it offers "a mentorship program where students are matched with an officer to improve their professional development skills such as writing resumes and cover letters, attaining an internship, or discussing graduate school."
Unlike other organizations, it is not necessary to declare a major or minor to participate in PMA events—all you need is an expressed interest in Psychology.
Nikita Patel, PMA Treasurer, believes PMA is beneficial to students because "one of the fundamental missions of the organization is to connect students with the faculty, research, and courses that are available." If a number of members express a specific interest within a field of psychology, PMA officers utilize their resources to recruit speakers to present on a related topic.
Throughout the academic year, PMA hosts several events including networking fairs and field trips. Last fall, PMA hosted a Night Owl Event with Temple's Office of Student Activities titled "A Paranormal Halloween. By collaborating with Student Activities for this event, PMA was able to showcase various psychological concepts to Temple's general student body while incorporating Halloween themes. Some activities for this event included trivia focused on psychological thriller movies, information about introductory psychology, an optical illusion station, as well as other fun activities such as pumpkin painting and a costume contest. This semester, PMA looks forward to hosting a range of events, including the annual Lab and Internship Networking Fair.
