José Guillermo Rodríguez Plaza (he/his) obtained his BA in Spanish and English at Temple University, where he works as a language instructor and tutor at the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. At Temple, he completed the Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies graduate program. His research also includes the areas of Decolonial and Latinx Studies. His doctoral project looks at the ways Caribbean Latinx writers reference spiritual practices and beliefs as a tool to counteract colonialism and oppression. So far, his favorite take away from his research has been sharing his findings with his living grandmother who has been a major contributor and influence in his studies.
José Guillermo is also the co-founder of Teatro Paloma, Lancaster’s Latinx Theatre, through which he helps produce Latinx-centered plays and originally devised works in both English and Spanish.
