Esteban Lopez-Arguedas is a PhD student in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at Temple University. Originally from Heredia, Costa Rica, he earned a Bachelor's degree in Spanish Philology and a Master's degree in Latin American Literature, both from the University of Costa Rica.
Before joining Temple University, he spent 15 years as a Resident Director for Study Abroad programs in Costa Rica, working with various U.S. universities. He has also taught Latin American Literature at the University of Costa Rica’s School of Philology, Linguistics, and Literature, as well as at other private educational institutions.
His research focuses on 18th-century Mesoamerican colonial texts, particularly the bibliographic production of religious orders such as the Franciscans and Jesuits. His work integrates archival research with historical and philological analysis, aiming to revive these often-overlooked documents by reintroducing them into contemporary academic discussions. By highlighting the role of religious discourse, his research contributes to a deeper understanding of the spiritual and ideological foundations of the Latin American worldview.
