Ciara Sheerin is a PhD student in the Criminal Justice Department. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Social Work from Temple in 2018, at which time she interned in the Women Against Abuse Legal Center and volunteered as a tutor in a juvenile detention center with the Petey Greene Program.  She went on to receive her Master of Social Work at the University of Pennsylvania and her Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from Temple. While at UPenn, she specialized in criminal justice and reentry social work while interning for the Goldring Reentry Program and volunteering for the Youth Advocacy Project. Outside of academic internships and volunteer opportunities, Ciara has worked as a recovery specialist at Morris Home in Southwest Philadelphia, a social worker at the Philadelphia Department of Prisons, and as a Youth Justice Policy Analyst at the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office. She currently is an Associate Youth Ombudsperson for the City of Philadelphia's Office of the Youth Ombudsperson. Her interests focus on juvenile justice, critical criminology, and community-based transformative justice. As a social worker and PhD student, Ciara is passionate about policy reform through the lens of intersectionality, anti-racist and anti-oppressive frameworks.
