Biography
Dr. Mervis' career spans both arts and sciences. He earned a BA in Theater with honors, produced and directed plays and musicals, and worked in artist management for Broadway, television, and film. Transitioning to clinical psychology, he completed a postbaccalaureate certificate at Columbia University.
Dr. Mervis earned a PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Minnesota, studying under Angus W. MacDonald, III, PhD, with a focus on translating clinical cognitive neuroscience into practice through neuromodulation and cognitive training. His clinical internship at the Indianapolis VA Medical Center, supervised by Dr. Paul Lysaker, PhD, where he studied metacognition and trained in psychotherapy for veterans with psychosis. He completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Temple University with Dr. Lauren Ellman, researching psychosis risk syndromes.
In addition teaching and research, Dr. Mervis' clinical interests include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Recovery-Oriented Cognitive Therapy, and Metacognitive Reflection and Insight Therapy.
