Gabrielle Spence is a PhD candidate in Criminal Justice at Temple University whose research focuses on surveillance, data, juvenile justice, and the ways institutional practices shape young people’s experiences within the legal system. Her dissertation, Seeing Double: Surveillance, Data Doubles, and Juvenile Diversion Pathway Decisions, examines how information about youth is collected, interpreted, documented, and shared by frontline staff and how these processes can influence pathways through diversion and juvenile justice systems. Her broader research interests include juvenile justice, surveillance and technology, organizational decision-making, data and information systems, and the intersection of research and practice. In addition to her doctoral research, Gabrielle works as a data manager for the City of Philadelphia's Office of Public Safety, where she supports data infrastructure, reporting, and evaluation across violence intervention and community-based programs. She also teaches undergraduate courses in criminal justice, bringing her experience in applied research and data practice into the classroom.
