Biography
Afrin Islam is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Department of Economics at Temple University and an affiliated faculty member with the Global Studies Program. She earned her Ph.D. in Economics from Washington State University and both her M.A. and B.A. in Economics from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Dr. Islam specializes in applied microeconomics, with particular emphasis on food, health, and environmental issues. Her current research examines how information processing shapes decision-making and influences economic outcomes.
Before pursuing graduate studies in the United States, Dr. Islam worked as a consultant for the largest market development project in Bangladesh. In this role, she contributed to initiatives that directly benefited millions of farmers through strategic value chain mapping, technical guidance, and actionable insights to inform both policy and business decisions.
