Emaline Reyes is a second-year PhD student studying medical anthropology and pursuing a graduate certificate in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies (GSWS). She graduated from the University of Delaware in 2018 with her BA in anthropology and medical humanities, as well as with Latin honors and a degree with distinction. For her dissertation, Emaline hopes to study how hurricane Maria impacted Puerto Rican childbirth experiences. Previously Emaline has researched the evolution of childbirth and maternal motives behind elective cesarean sections (her undergraduate thesis). She is most interested in matters of reproductive health, rights, and justice (as well as environmental justice). Her regions of interest include the Caribbean, Latin America, and North America.
