James M. Rogers is an Associate Professor of Political Science.  He earned his bachelors and masters degrees in political science from the University of Missouri-St. Louis (1972, 1977)  and his Ph.D. in political science from the Pennsylvania State University (1981), where he also concentrated in economics.  He joined the Temple faculty in 1988 after teaching at Fordham University in New York City.

His primary scholarly interests involve the politics of knowledge, where his research focuses on the impact of policy analysis, research utilization, and the philosophical and organizational context of knowledge production.  Across inquiries in these areas his work seeks to describe and explain the outcomes of introducing knowledge claims into legislative, administrative, and other social processes.  Explanations may lead back to the foundations and center of the research and analytic process as well as into the more immediate swirl of activity surrounding research outputs and the uses to which they are put.  In this work he has ventured across substantive areas of public policy, including economics, welfare, substance abuse, and environment, rather than concentrate in a single area.

In the classroom his pursuits generally fall within the fields of public policy and organization theory.  His teaching style emphasizes encouragement of critical thinking and immersion in contemporary political issues and events.
