Joseph Johnson is a third-year PhD student in the history program. His primary interests are in US-Latin American relations during the 20th Century, focusing on the proliferation of nuclear weapons and human rights. I received my MA in Social Sciences at The University of Chicago after working on a thesis entitled "USS Honduras," focusing on US military bases and human rights in Honduras during the 1980s. Before that, I received my BA from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, where I studied early modern European history and participated heavily in the theatre program.

Since coming to Temple, I have worked as a Teaching Assistant for multiple courses including WWII, the United States at War, and Philadelphia Arts and Culture. During the 2022-2023 academic year, I served as the Sgt. Maj. William F. Berger Fellow in War and Society awarded by CENFAD. I  also received a Marvin Wachman grant to study Spanish in Antigua, Guatemala, during the past summer.

I currently serve as the Thomas J. Davis Fellow in Diplomacy and Foreign Relations for the 2023-2024 academic year.
