Matthew is a PhD candidate in Temple University’s Geography and Urban Studies department. He received his BA from Dickinson College, studying international relations and environmental studies. He received an MS from the University of Pennsylvania in applied geosciences, focusing on hydrology and issues of water quality. His research at Temple primarily uses remote sensing technologies to study land cover change in the Peruvian Amazon. His dissertation is concerned with the degradation of the palm swamps of the northeast Peruvian Amazon, an ecosystem of high importance to the global climate. His dissertation is titled: “Environmental degradation of the palm swamps of the Peruvian Amazon: Incorporating perspectives from remote sensing, spatial statistics, sustainability science, and political ecology.”
