Biography
Tamar Sarai Davis (she/her) is a first-year History PhD student at Temple. She received her B.A. in Sociology and African American Studies from Wellesley College and an M.S. in Journalism from Columbia University.
Prior to joining the History Department at Temple, Tamar has worked as a journalist covering the carceral system with a focus on how policing and incarceration impact Black women and girls. Her work has been featured in outlets including Prism, Essence, and Truthout.
Her research interests include 18th and 19th century African American history; Black women's history; gender, sexuality, and slavery; and public memory.
