Zach Brooks was born and raised in Piscataway, New Jersey. The development of his consciousness began with his introduction to "The Autobiography of Malcolm X." Malcolm X’s notable quote that has come to define his path is “Of all our studies, history is best qualified to reward our research.” After this initial exposure, Zach decided to focus on the discipline of history for his undergraduate studies and sought to learn the many narratives and processes which have shaped the present conditions of Black people in the United States and throughout the world.
Following his graduation from Temple University with a BA in History, Zach chose to work as a middle and high school teacher to share what he had learned with young students. Working in these schools allowed him to see the structural barriers in place that prevented and currently prevent him and his fellow Afrikans from receiving an education that affirms their Afrikan identity and allows liberation from the systemic conditions imposed on them. Zach chose to return to graduate school in pursuit of a skill set and credentials that would enable him to maximize his capacity to educationally empower Afrikan people. So far, he has earned his MA in Africology and is now pursuing his Ph.D at Temple University.
