Biography
Michelle B. Taylor, MSW is a Philadelphia-based writer, public speaker, DEI consultant, podcaster (“Black Girl Missing”), community activist, and semi-retired social worker. She is an award-winning blogger and the author of four books, including the critically-acclaimed, best-selling Reclaiming Our Space: How Black Feminists Are Changing the World From the Tweets to the Streets (Beacon, 2019). Michelle is a PhD student in Temple University’s Africology & African American Studies department and she is obtaining the GSWS Certificate. Michelle’s research and career focus includes Hip Hop culture, Black motherhood, Black cinema, LGBTQ+ identity, social work, and social justice organizing. As a freelance writer, she has been featured in TIME, The New York Times, Essence, The Washington Post, and has had columns for EBONY and Zora Magazines. In 2020, she was named one of the “76 Most Influential People in Philadelphia” and one of the “Bitch 50”, honoring leading feminist women around the world. As an in-demand speaker, Michelle regularly delivers keynote speeches and presents her research at colleges, universities, organizations, and conferences around the U.S. Michelle is also the founder of Sankofa Summer School, an Afrocentric education program that launched in the summer of 2021 and is growing every year.
