Walter James is a PhD candidate with an interest in comparative and international political economy.
Walter’s dissertation research investigates the political dynamics underpinning financial regulation in advanced industrialized economies since the 2008 Global Financial Crisis. Specifically, it tries to explain why some governments, more than others, implement more stringent regulatory policies to ensure the stability of their financial systems. Walter gratefully acknowledges the financial support he received for part of his fieldwork research from Temple University’s Global Studies Program in 2019. He is a recipient of the Fulbright Graduate Research Fellowship to conduct fieldwork research for one year starting in May 2021.
Walter has taught several undergraduate courses at Temple, including Globalization and Development, Foreign Governments, Politics of the Global Economy, and Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences.
Before coming to Temple, Walter worked for some time as a research associate at a management consulting firm in Chicago, IL. He holds a BA in History from the University of Oregon and an MA in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago.
