Biography

I earned my B.A. in Hispanic Literatures at the University of Zaragoza (Spain) and the University of Birmingham (UK). A PhD from Stony Brook University (2010), my third book project focuses on communitarian imaginaries and collective experiences from late feudal to early capitalist Spain. Tentatively entitled The Literature of the Commons, this book attempts to re-read the Spanish canon as a series of interconnected gestures defying economic and symbolic enclosure. In doing so, I intend to shed more light onto that dim space that can neither qualify as private nor as public (the space of the political), but also to return to the old question of “literary” value; that is, to pose a radically historical notion of value that surmounts Kantian aesthetics, not rooted in subjective appreciation or dictated by critical consensus. Other fields of research include neoliberal sci-fi and horror, medical discourses and the question of sovereignty, Latin American Colonial poetry, love discourses and libidinal transactions, Cervantes and Góngora.
