Biography

Gary Mucciaroni has been a member of the faculty of the Political Science Department at Temple since he arrived in 1993. He is the founding Director of the Public Policy Program and was Department Chair from 2005-2010 and in 2015-2016. The focus of his research and publications is the politics of public policymaking in the United States— examining the forces and actors that impinge upon the policy choices of government. He is the author of five books and several articles. His current research focuses on comparative political development, abortion politics, and the future of a post-marriage equality LGBTQ movement.

Work on Comparative Political Development

  • Answers to the Labor Question: The Origins of Industrial Relations Regimes in the Anglophone World, 1880-1945. University of Toronto Press, forthcoming May 2024. Anglophone countries are frequently lumped together as “liberal” or “market-led” political economies. Exploring the role of the state in industrial relations, this new book shows that these nations developed strikingly divergent industrial relations systems and explains how and why the divergence occurred from the late 19th to the late 20th Century.
