The +1 Master in Psychological Research program offers Temple University undergraduate students the opportunity to earn a bachelor's and master's degree in just 5 years. It provides a research-intensive experience, advanced coursework, and professional development opportunities to students who intend to pursue a research-focused doctoral degree in a variety of psychology disciplines.
In May 2019, the first graduating cohort comprised of 3 students: Jairo Colon, Rachel Carpenter, and Ross Divers. Jairo is currently a Visit Coach/Family Resource Specialist at Justice Works Youth Care, an evidence-based program providing guidance to parents in pending child custody cases. The work includes monitoring and documenting parent-child interactions, providing feedback to parents to better meet the child's needs, and supplying courts with observational data obtained during supervised parent-child visits. Jairo aspires to become a Clinical Child Psychologist. Rachel is currently a Research Technician in Tim Mosca's lab in the Department of Neuroscience at the Farber Institute for Neuroscience at Jefferson University. Rachel manages the lab and works on multiple projects involving larval synaptic maturation and adult olfactory synapse development. She plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Neuroscience. Ross is currently a Clinical Psychology Ph.D. student on the Neuropsychology track at Louisiana State University. He is working in Dr. Matthew Calamia's lab, studying the characterization and assessment of everyday, functional deficits in both healthy and pathological (MCI, dementia) cognitive aging. Ross's doctoral program has permitted him to continue the research he began while in Dr. Tania Giovannetti's lab during the +1 program. We look forward to following these alumni as they go further into their careers!
