The College of Liberal Arts is proud to announce that Africology and African American Studies Chair Molefi Kete Asante has won the National Communication Association's 2019 Distinguished Scholar Award! The award—the highest accolade given by the association—is given annually to honor a lifetime of scholarly achievement by a recipient in the field of human communication.

Calling Dr. Asante's work "spectacular" and "profound," the National Communication Association bestowed the award upon the professor at its annual convention in Baltimore. The department chair and professor was also credited with having developed Afrocentricity as a theoretical framework celebrating Africa and the African diaspora.

Dr. Asante is an activist intellectual whom the college has been proud to call part of its faculty for 35 years. Dr. Asante has 83 books and over 500 articles to his name and is recognized as one of the most influential and widely cited African scholars.
