On April 22nd 2024, the Center for Sustainable Communities welcomed 17 of our partner organizations to Temple's campus for a Meet and Greet Thank You Lunch. The event was organized to express our gratitude to our community partners who lent their voices during our community climate resilience conversations in Fall 2023. These conversations informed an internal report prepared by CSC for the William Penn Foundation on climate resilience in the greater Philadelphia region. Organizations represented at the lunch included Philadelphia Energy Authority, Temple Office of Sustainability, Clean Air Council, Physicians for Social Responsibility, Here 4 CJ, Asociación Puertorriqueños en Marcha, H.A.C.E. Livability Academy, Green Building United, Philadelphia Public Health Dept, Kingsington Corridor Trust. We learned about the many facets of community development and organization that is required to build community resilience to climate change. The lunch was an opportunity for attendees to make new connections with other participants and demonstrated the power of community-driven action for climate sustainability. Together, we are shaping a more resilient future for all.

The symposium took place from March 22-23, 2018. It brought together scholars working on the social, environmental, economic, policy and cultural dimensions of sustainability science to inspire and outline the next frontier of research on sustainability science. The aim of the event was to identify gaps, provide a conceptual framework, and outline a transdisciplinary sustainability science research agenda with key questions and funding strategies for research proposals. The event focused on three themes: i) envisioning sustainable futures; ii) institutional and technological transitions toward sustainability and iii) defining the role of transdisciplinary science and academics on the implementation of transformational policies toward sustainability. Topics discussed included energy transitions and/or socio-technological change; institutional transformations and governance mechanisms for sustainability; urban growth and urban footprint, urban-rural interdependencies; societal values, science communication; ecosystem change; climate, health and wellbeing; food production, consumption and access; sustainable use of water resources; and social, economic and environmental inequalities.
