Change of Program Procedures

Are you a current Temple University student interested in declaring a primary major in the College of Liberal Arts (CLA)? The CLA Center for Academic Advising and Professional Development is here to guide you through transferring into CLA.

Temple students seeking to transfer into the College of Liberal Arts will first complete the online CLA Change of Program (COP) course in Canvas. It’s easy to sign up and should only take 15 minutes to complete.

Our faculty, administration and staff look forward to welcoming you into our college!

Step One: Register for CLA’s Change of Program Canvas course by calling 215.204.7971 or visiting the CLA Center for Academic Advising and Professional Development during normal business hours. Our office is located on the first floor of Paley Library at 1210 Polett Walk.

To Be Completed in Canvas

Step Two:  Log into the Canvas course through your TU Portal Account. Read the introductory section and watch the College of Liberal Arts Change of Program video which covers important information about academic advising and CLA’s degree requirements.

Please pay close attention as you will be required to answer a brief quiz and answer all questions correctly prior to completing your Change of Program application.

Step Three: Complete a brief quiz which tests your knowledge of the college requirements covered in the video. Answer each question correctly to advance to the next module. You can take the test more than once.

Step Four:  Download the watermarked CLA Change of Program form that can only be accessed after successful completion of the quiz. Fill out and sign the form and bring it with you to the Center for Academic Advising and Professional Development for processing.

Upon completing the course you can make an appointment with an academic advisor to register or revise your schedule for the upcoming semester. Even if you are unsure of your plans, please bring this form with you to the CLA Center for Academic Advising and Professional Development to set up an appointment.

What happens after I submit the form?

If you have completed all the steps above, your request will be forwarded to the Office of the University Registrar for processing. Records are typically updated within three business days or less. The Office of the University Registrar sends an email notification when the Change of Program is complete.

Please note that your Change of Program is effective for the semester after you apply. If you submit a Change of Program in the fall semester, you will be a College of Liberal Arts student in the spring semester. However, you will still be able to register for College of Liberal Arts courses and meet with a CLA academic advisor while the Change of Program is being processed.
