Frances Ellen Watkins Harper Award

Established in 2014 by the Department of African American Studies in celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the doctorate program, this award honors Frances Ellen Watkins Harper (1825-1911), the multi-talented poet, novelist, educator and abolitionist who elevated the lives of African Americans everywhere. The award is given to the College of Liberal Arts student who best represents the discipline of Africology over the course of their undergraduate studies at Temple.
